This course offers comprehensive teacher education and training for the Japanese language. The main objective is to familiarize teachers with current theories, methodologies, and their practical applications developed in the relevant areas, with strong focus on the communicative approach and CALL [Computer Assisted Language Learning] or TEL [Technology Enhanced Learning]. The main topics to be considered are as follows:

To be held in Fall Term at the Japanese Heritage Language School
[Heritage
Program; High School Credit Courses; Continuing Education] at Thornlea
S.S. and in Winter Term at York University.
Four class hours per week; rather heavy preparation and assignments. Each class will be conducted in seminar style in order to enhance students' active and creative participation and involvement. Students are strongly encouraged to take the initiative in communicative interactions in class. Students are expected to use computer and Internet based work.
